Synaesthesia: Aesthetic Sound
The Noughties gave rise to a preponderance of would-be producers who eagerly crunched away at the control-pads on their PlayStations, in the obscure hope they’d be ‘discovered.’
To well-intended choruses of ‘that’s heavy blaad!’ from fan bases (which seldom extended beyond immediate friends and family), these producers would churn out track after mediocre track laced with lazy samples, synth-laden beats and plodding bass-lines. In a nutshell, everyone and their grandma was a ‘producer’ by some stretch of the imagination.
Meanwhile, some of South London’s finest where cooking up a storm with refreshingly clean, polished productions that are set to blow up.
The Synaesthesia campaign challenged these artists to produce an instrumental which reflected the tone of an image from the MOVED collection.
